A.J. Brown on Titans acquiring Julio Jones: ‘Y’all done f—ed up’

There may not be a happier person in the NFL right now than A.J. Brown.

The third-year Titans receiver, who publicly lobbied Julio Jones to consider Tennessee as a potential trade destination, seems ecstatic at reports his team will be the one to land the two-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl receiver.

Brown, himself a Pro Bowl selection in 2020, put it in no uncertain terms:

The Titans reportedly will give up a 2022 second-rounder and 2023 fourth-rounder for Jones, also getting a 2023 sixth-rounder on top of the 32-year-old-star receiver.

Assuming the deal goes through, the receiving duo of Jones and Brown looks like it would be one of the strongest — literally — in the league. Add running back Derrick Henry in the mix, and likely one of the hardest to tackle skill position groups in the NFL.

Brown is coming off a breakout season in which he caught 70 passes for 1,075 yards and 11 touchdowns. Henry, the two-time reigning NFL rushing champion, is coming off a 2,027-yard, 17-touchdown season, both tops in the NFL. Jones is coming off a season in which he was plagued with hamstring issues, yet still put up 771 yards and three touchdowns in nine games (the second-fewest in a single season for his career).

Assuming Jones can stay relatively healthy, he will provide an immediate upgrade to the Titans’ receiving corps, especially after they lost receiver Corey Davis and tight end Jonnu Smith to free agency and moved on from slot target Adam Humphries. It’s arguable Jones provides an upgrade simply by lining up next to Brown, as teams will now have to worry about covering both receivers while keeping an eye on Henry in the backfield.
