Aljaz Skorjanec says he proposed after awkward question from Strictly fan ‘I was sweating’
Aljaz Skorjanec, 31, has recalled how he proposed to his wife Janette Manrara, 37, after being asked a very awkward question by a Strictly Come Dancing fan while the couple were performing on a cruise. The dance-duo first began dating in 2010 before getting proposed five years later and tying the knot in 2017.
Opening up on the circumstances behind his proposal to Janette, Aljaz shared how during a Q&A on a cruise ship a lady in the audience had asked when he would be popping the question.
He said on the couple’s podcast Twist and Shout: “She went right in and asked the question, ‘So Aljaz, when are you going to pop the question?’”
Janette added: “That was it, the whole room looked at you.”
Aljaz continued: “So the whole room looks right at me, no one says a thing, you can hear a pin drop and I just didn’t know what to say, so I turned red, blue, pink and I started sweating profusely.
“But I got the ring which was kind of what I already had in my head anyway. I bought the ring that same night.”
Despite the proposal not being planned. Aljaz admits he is grateful for the stranger who helped push him in the right direction.
He shared: “That lady stepped on my toes more than anyone ever had before, it’s not a bad thing! But she pushed a button that stayed on.”
It comes after Janette’s decision to bid farewell to the Strictly dance floor to host the BBC show’s spin-off It Takes Two sparked speculation from some of her fans that she could be expecting her first baby with her husband of four years.
