Anthony Joshua next fight: When could AJ face Tyson Fury after Kubrat Pulev win?

Anthony Joshua claimed another victory for his exemplary boxing record, after beating Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev at Wembley Arena. Could AJ now take on Tyson Fury, or will fans have to wait even longer?

Joshua has now won 24 fights after beating Pulev to retain his WBO, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles.

AJ landed a five-shot combination in the second round to steady his feet, which left Pulev smirking.

Joshua managed his first knockdown in the third round, after the referee stepped in to protect Pulev. The Bulgarian was floored again just seconds later, in an explosive third round.

But the fight eventually ended in the ninth round, with Joshua winning by knockout.

When could Anthony Joshua fight Tyson Fury?

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has explained that he’s relatively confident the fight will take place.

Ahead of the clash against Pulev, Hearn said he wanted details for the fight confirmed before the end of the weekend.

But it was provided that Joshua managed to overcome Pulev.

After AJ managed to beat Pulev, Hearn will be hoping to tie up a deal with Fury sooner rather than later.

“I am as close to 100% as I can be that the Fury fight will happen if AJ wins on Saturday,” he said.

“All we’ve got to do is win and I don’t know if that is why AJ is a bit edgy.

“I’ve mentioned it to their team. If Tyson has a warm-up fight, we’ll fight Usyk and then everything gets… there is no reason for a warm-up fight.

“He boxed in February and he does not have the style where he needs a warm-up fight. It will be straight in and I think he is happy with that.”

But, Joshua has explained that he’s probably more likely to fight Oleksandr Usyk than Fury next year.

Usyk has a very good record of 18 wins from 18 fights, and he’s now the WBO mandatory challenger.

Fury has remained undefeated after 31 fights, having won 30.

The Gipsy King handed Wilder his first defeat and draw within the past two years, after the American had previously won all 42 of his fights.
