Arsenal dealt blow ahead of Norwich as trio test positive for Covid and will miss Wolves

Arsenal have confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu, Cedric Soares and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have all tested positive for COVID-19, meaning they are unavailable for the Boxing Day trip to Norwich. The Gunners are back in action when they travel to East Anglia as they look to strengthen their grip on the top-four but Mikel Arteta will be without the trio, who are now embarking on a period of isolation.

Tomiyasu was expected to miss the game against the Canaries anyway due to a muscle injury.

The Japan international hobbled off at Elland Road in the 4-1 win against Leeds last weekend, halting his impressive start to life in north London following his summer switch from Bologna.

Cedric was one of the names that would have been in line to replace him in the starting XI but now the Portuguese has also returned a positive test.

Meanwhile, Maitland-Niles has been missing through illness – not understood to be Covid related – but two days after returning to training, he too has returned a positive test.

Calum Chambers was already missing due to Covid with Ben White set to start as a makeshift right-back.

The Gabon international has been frozen out since being dropped for the 3-0 win over Southampton.

Aubameyang was stripped of the armband earlier this month after he reported late back to the club after visiting his mother overseas.

Pablo Mari is back amongst the squad after completing his period of isolation.

There is also space for youngster Charlie Patino, who netted on his senior debut in midweek as Arsenal thrashed Sunderland to reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
