Attendance Allowance may increase other financial support - how to claim tax-free payment

The payment is not means-tested, meaning income or how much a person has in savings won’t impact how much they can get. Furthermore, someone doesn’t need to have to care for them in order to claim.
That said, the government does point out that should a person have a carer, then it may be they’re able to get Carer’s Allowance.
Attendance Allowance is paid at two different rates, and how much a person gets will depend on the level of care needed because of the disability, the government states.
The payment does not cover mobility needs.
The level of help needed for the lower rate of Attendance Allowance is defined as “frequent help or constant supervision during the day, or supervision at night”.

This is a rate of £59.70 per week.
The higher rate is £89.15 per week.
To qualify for this rate, a person must need “help or supervision throughout both day and night, or you’re terminally ill”.
Should circumstances change, it may be a person gets a different rate.
DON’T MISS
The payment is paid into the claimant’s bank, building society or credit union account.
It may be a person can get extra forms of financial support by claiming Attendance Allowance.
For instance, the government points out they may be able to get additional Pension Credit, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction.
To see if this is an option, Attendance Allowance recipients are directed to check via the helpline or office dealing with the benefit.
Some may want to look into what forms of financial support they are eligible for.
This can be done online via a benefits calculator.
There are a number of these tools out there, with three independent and free services signposted by the government.
These particular calculators are hosted by entitledto, Turn2us, and Policy in Practice.
