Barbara Windsor's EastEnders co-star Larry Lamb recalls being 'slapped' by actress in soap
Former EastEnders star Larry Lamb has paid tribute to his colleague Barbara Windsor, who died yesterday following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. The actor played Archie Mitchell in the BBC soap, the brother-in-law and husband of Barbara’s character Peggy Mitchell, from 2008 to 2010.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain this morning, Larry recalled working with the legendary actress.
He praised her for being “very professional” on the set of the show and spoke about being on the receiving end of one of her character’s famous slaps.
Larry said it was “wonderful to be on the right side of her, but not the other way”.
The 73-year-old also recalled his first meeting with Barbara.

Barbara’s death at 83, was confirmed in a statement by her husband Scott Mitchell yesterday.
When asked about his special memories of the actress, Larry told the story of their first encounter.
“The first thing she said to me was ‘You’re a bit tall aren’t you? Never mind, we are all the same size lying down, dear.’
“She was quite a character,” he added.
The actor said of Barbara, who joined the cast of EastEnders back in 1994 and left in 2016, that she brought everyone together and was “always on top of her lines.”
“Within EastEnders she was like the head girl, insisted everybody got on and everybody did their work,” Larry told the presenters.
“Very professional actress.
“No messing around with her, she was always on top of her lines and not very happy if other people weren’t on top of their lines.”
