Battlefield 2042 on PC Gets a Price Cut in India

Battlefield 2042 on Steam and EA Play seems to have gotten a stealthy price cut for the standard, gold as well as ultimate editions. The base game now costs Rs. 2,999 down from its previous listing at Rs. 3,499. The game’s new-gen console versions (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S), on the other hand, retain their asking price of Rs. 4,499 for the standard edition, with no change in pricing for the other editions.

This is a welcome move for the multiplayer-only shooter as the game’s previous cost was too much considering almost all of its competitors offer a free-to-play tier. You can get further 10% off if you have a recurring EA Play subscription, which is also included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

The price cut on PC suggests EA is aware of its shooters doing well in India, although the game being multi-player only might prove to be an uphill battle against other games on the marker. According to Dice General Manager Oskar Gabrielson, Battlefield 2042’s single-player mode was killed off in favour of a multiplayer-only experience.

“That decision has allowed us to focus our efforts and really deliver on a number of quality-of-life improvements, and that’s a really important thing for us. We’ll still be able to deliver a compelling narrative within the world that we’re building and, as you’ll see, the world and the narrative will develop through the live service, and through the eyes of the Specialists.”

Of course, one could argue that you can get the game for a much lower price when subscribed to EA Play Pro, which costs Rs. 999 per month or Rs. 6,499 per year in the country. With the latter you could conceivably get access to not only Battlefield 2042’s ultimate edition, which costs lesser than the annual membership on its own, but also EA’s entire catalogue of old and new games alike.

Either way, the PC version of Battlefield 2042 seems to be offering the most value, packing in next-gen features at a lower cost than even its last-gen console counterparts, and the inclusion of a map based on India’s Gujarat might push the more reluctant gamers in the country to take the plunge.

Battlefield 2042 releases on October 22 for PC (Steam and EA Play/Origin), PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
