Battlefield 2042 Won't Include a Campaign or a Battle Royale Mode

Battlefield 2042 won’t have a single-player campaign when it launches in October, despite campaigns being a key part of the vast majority of Battlefield games and especially in recent years. It also won’t return to a battle royale mode.
Instead, it’s going to focus on its multiplayer campaign, which supports 128 players on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S and X, and 64 on PS4 and Xbox One.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Battlefield 2042 designer director Daniel Berlin explained why the game is missing a single-player campaign, saying focusing on multiplayer allowed DICE to “lean into what we are best at.”
“If you look at the DNA of the studio, what we’ve been doing for so long, we just said you know what, we’re not going to have a traditional single-player campaign this time around, but we’re going to put all that emphasis and all those resources into building depth into the multiplayer. Because that is what we do best.”
However, Berlin emphasized that Battlefield 2042 will still have a narrative woven throughout its multiplayer world, with stories told through the eyes of the Specialist characters being introduced.
