With Battlegrounds Mobile India out on Android and a soon to be revealed iOS release date on the way, it seems that Krafton isn’t letting up on establishing its version of PUBG Mobile for India. The company took to Instagram to tease its Battlegrounds Mobile India esports plans.

“It’s time to make history,” reads Krafton’s post. “Squad up for the biggest battle you’ve all been waiting for. Stay tuned for more.”

This should come as no surprise to IGN India readers as we reported that esports plans were in the works last month. Krafton has been talking to esports players and teams for an upcoming tournament. Noted streamers confirmed that this was indeed the case.

Prior to Krafton’s tease, several sources in the esports industry speaking to IGN India on condition of anonymity tell us that most Battlegrounds Mobile esports professional players are demanding — and getting, nearly 100 percent more than what they used to get to play.

“Last year the going rate for new pro players was about Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 30,000,” says one former PUBG pro. “Now it’s anywhere between Rs. 40,000 to 50,000 at the very least.”

Interestingly, most teams are willing to cooperate, we’re told, buoyed by the prospect of more tournaments and events to recoup costs.

”It’s a seller’s market right now,” says one esports team owner. “Yes, we probably overpaid for most of our players, but from what we have heard from Krafton, we’re hopeful.”

The hike in salaries as well as the ability of teams to meet these demands, suggests that the return of the game is anticipated to be met with great success from a financial standpoint for the Indian esports industry.

”We think Battlegrounds Mobile India can do for esports what the Premier League did for football,” says one major investor. “The game coming back is a massive boost and would allow for more capital to flow into the games business.”
