‘Can’t understand that’ Kelvin Fletcher baffled by neighbours’ warning on farming decision

After trading in urban life last year for a 120-acre farm on the edge of the Peak District with his pregnant wife and two children, Kelvin Fletcher is high on life. With multiple barns and outbuildings to maintain, along with 20 sheep, three pigs and three alpacas, the 37-year-old avid townie has hopes to turn their farm into a commercially successful business.

But he admitted he has been warned by their new neighbours it might be harder than he thinks.

His new venture is captured in BBC1’s six-part series Kelvin’s Big Farming Adventure, which follows the fsmily as they attempt to get to grips with a very different lifestyle.

And in a new joint interview with wife Liz Marsland, the former soap star who rose to fame as young farmer Andy Sugden on Emmerdale, spoke about why he turned what was originally a fictional job on telly into real life.

“Farmers round here keep telling me I won’t make any money from farming,” Kelvin shrugged.

“And the funny thing is that I absolutely love it and can’t wait for a long drive so I can indulge.”

Their move was partly prompt day the numerous Covid lockdowns, where Kelvin explained he had a lot of time to “be present and reflect”.

“I think both of us were ready for a change. To embrace something new,” he smiled.

But at the time, it all came as a bit of a shock for Liz.

The Cold Feet actress, who is expecting the couple’s third child, was initially taken aback but the idea of uprooting their life to move to an 18th-century cottage.

“I thought, it was just one of his mad moments!” she told Radio Times.

Their farming adventure begins on BBC One Monday 17th January.
