Chiefs’ Frank Clark arrested on suspicion of illegal firearm possession

Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark was arrested Sunday on suspicion of illegally carrying a concealed weapon inside his car. He has not been charged with a crime.

According to multiple reports — the first from TMZ Sports — Clark was pulled over in Los Angeles Sunday night due to a vehicle violation at 9:20 p.m. PT. It was at that point that an arresting officer from the Los Angeles Police Department noticed an open duffel bag inside Clark’s Lamborghini SUV. Sticking out of the bag in plain sight was a submachine gun. According to a statement from LAPD public information officer Tony Im to the Associated Press, the gun in question was an Uzi.

Clark, 28, was booked at 9:28 a.m. PT and released on $35,000 bound, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff Department inmate website. TMZ Sports later reported that, according to a source “close to Clark,” the gun belongs to a member of his security detail.

“We are aware of the matter, which will be reviewed under the NFL’s personal conduct policy,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a Monday statement.

Clark was previously arrested in 2014 while a member of the Michigan Wolverines football team, on suspicion of domestic violence. Though he was dismissed from the team, he ultimately pleaded down to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

Clark is in the third year of a five-year, $104 million contract with the Chiefs, with whom he has become a Pro Bowl player in each of his first two seasons. The 2015 second-round NFL Draft pick spent his first four seasons with the Seahawks before he was traded to Kansas City. There, he has combined for 14 sacks and 68 tackles (20 for loss), helping the team to two Super Bowl berths, including a victory in Super Bowl 54.
