DLA: Everything you need to know about Disability Living Allowance – are you eligible?

DLA: Everything you need to know about Disability Living Allowance – are you eligible?

Where claimants are eligible, they will be awarded a care component, a mobility component or a combination of the two.

Each of these components are then categorised into separate rankings, meaning there can be huge variety in how much is paid out.

Generally though, claimants will receive between £23.60 and £151.40 per week, which is dependent on the level of help a child needs.

On top of the age and disability requirements, the children of the claimants must also be living in Great Britain, a European Economic Area (EEA) country or Switzerland when the claim is put through, although there are some exceptions for those with family members in the Armed forces.

Additionally, the children being claimed for must also have lived in Great Britain for two of the last three years (if over three years old), be habitually resident in the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands and not be subject to immigration control.
