Emmerdale star Gaynor Faye says her mum was the REAL reason she left ITV soap
Emmerdale fans will remember Megan Macey, a fiesty character who appeared in the ITV soap between 2012 and 2019 before actress Gaynor Faye revealed she would be quitting. While fans were gutted that hot-headed Megan would be leaving the Dales after seven years, Gaynor admitted it was all for a good cause.
The actress’ mum Kay Mellor, is screenwriter and director and wanted to see her daughter star in the stage version of her drama, Band of Gold.
The 1995 drama told the story of a young mother who turns to prostitution to pay the bills and support her children after she throws her abusive husband out of the house.
In a new interview, she said: “I was working on Emmerdale at the time and got involved in workshopping Band of Gold and people just loved it… absolutely loved it.
“Then I got asked if I would be in it, but I was still in Emmerdale, so then I had to make the choice whether or not I was going to leave Emmerdale or not.

“That was a big choice to make.”
And a huge decision it was too, giving up her role in the popular prime-time soap.
But she admitted it would have been even more difficult to not star in her mum’s play.
“She really wanted me in it,” Gaynor remembered.
“She really liked my version of Rose so, for her, she really wanted me to do it.
“I didn’t leave, I still see loads of people and Emmerdale’s around the corner, but I’m absolutely loving doing this show.”
She also said it was a risk to leave the soap after seven years receiving a regular pay cheque, adding: “It’s a risk.
“I need to push myself out of my comfort zone.
