England captain Harry Kane to present Christian Eriksen tribute and makes Euro 2020 demand

Captain Harry Kane will present an England shirt with the number 10 on the back to Denmark ahead of kick-off Wednesday night as a tribute to Christian Eriksen. The on-pitch heart attack suffered by Eriksen at the Euros shocked the sporting world and England were keen to make a gesture of support for him at Wembley.

It will have particular resonance for Kane, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier as former teammates of Eriksen at Spurs.

“We were on the coach before the Croatia game and we saw it on the screens,” said Trippier.

“It’s just hard to put into words because I’ve played with him; I was close with Christian. It’s just important that he is here with us, he’s getting better, he’s making progress.

“I messaged him through social media but it’s private what he said. This is the time to give him privacy, with his family and his children. We just want him to make progress in his recovery.”

Meanwhile, Kane has ordered his England troops to seize the day tomorrow night in their make-or-break Euros semi-final.

“For me and a few of the older, more experienced ones, it will be the last chance to play a major tournament game at Wembley.

“What an opportunity. What a moment it will be. Hopefully we can win and have similar scenes to what we had against Germany.”

Kane has led from the front in the knockout stages with three goals in two games and is relishing the chance to try to follow in Sir Bobby Moore’s footsteps by lifting a major trophy at Wembley.

“I try not to let my mind get too far ahead, but I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about it,” he admitted.

“The whole playing for England and captaining England thing is a dream.

“As a kid growing up you have a vision of what you want to do and what you dream about – and this is it. Playing for your country and captaining your country at a major tournament, having games at Wembley, scoring goals and winning games.

“Of course it would be a dream come true. We have that chance again to go one step further and it is about grabbing that with both hands.”

Gareth Southgate is set to have a full squad to choose from with Buyako Saka returning to training yesterday after missing the 4-0 win over Ukraine.
