Gethin Jones: Morning Live host left with phobia of the dark after ‘bad break-ins’

BBC’s Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones, 43, admitted he was left with a fear of the dark after “a couple of bad break-ins”. The Masked Dancer judge, 31, asked the host whether there had been anything he was unable to do while filming BBC’s flagship children’s programme Blue Peter.

Gethin explained: “All the time. But then, I think that’s what changed. It got a bit scary because I kept pushing myself beyond my limits.

“And then you didn’t know where your limit was.

“I was really scared of the dark, so they thought it’d be good to put me in the London Dungeon for 24 hours. But they didn’t tell me there were live actors, did they?

“That was horrendous.”

He went on: “I’m not sure they’d be any good scientifically. Just absolutely s*** myself for the rest of my life every time I turn the lights out.”

Oti giggled and enquired: “You were still scared of the dark?”

The former Blue Peter presenter went on: “I had a couple of bad break-ins back in the day and it always sort of affected me. I’m not so bad now.”

During the conversation, Oti was left with “no words” after Gethin confessed to “weird” habits.

The candid confession left Oti in hysterics.

But he went on: “I’m a bit weird. I used to suck my hands when I was a kid so hard.

“I don’t know if you’ve ever seen it, but see how my finger’s a bit bent? That one.

“That’s because I used to put my whole hand in and that’s why I had to have braces.

“Honestly, why am I single?” Gethin quipped.

Oti laughed: “I’ve got no words.”

Earlier this month, Gethin had to unexpectedly pull out of presenting Morning Live as the area he lives in was told to undertake surge Covid testing.

He appeared on the show via video link instead, while Rav Wilding temporarily replaced him on the sofa.
