Golovkin fans left perplexed as singer ‘lip-synchs’ national anthem

Fans have accused Kazakh singer, Dimash Kudaibergen, of ‘lip-synching’ the Kazakstan national anthem ahead of the Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez III walkouts. Canelo won the trilogy bout via unanimous decision with scorecards of 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113 but his performance was not the main talking point on social media afterwards.

Many fans and members of the media were left less than convinced by the Kazakh singer’s rendition of Menin Qazaqstanym (My Kazahkstan). Esteemed boxing journalist Dan Rafael (DanRafael1) tweeted: “Worst job ever of lip synching a national anthem. #CaneloGGG3.”

American rapper Baby Bash (@BabyBash) wrote: “Man your not supposed to Lip Sync a National Anthem are you?? That Golovkin anthem looked sus #CaneloGGG3.”

@SalCano73561477 added: “Glad they didn’t show GGG, he was probably embarrassed.”

Before @ZENAPRCHAMP concluded: “Not everything has to be perfect. give a guy a break ,,,, it’s a happy day today.”

Golovkin was comfortably outpointed by Canelo this evening in a one-sided showing that puts an end to their contentious rivalry. The consensus is that GGG won the first two fights in 2017 and 2018 despite the first being given as a split draw and the second to Canelo via majority decision.

Post-fight, Canelo said that he intends to move back up to light-heavyweight to avenge his loss against Dmitry Bivol while Golovkin will return to 160lb to defend his WBA(super) and IBF belts. The Mexican retained his undisputed super-middleweight crown for the first time by beating the 40-year-old Kazakh veteran.
