Hardik Pandya is a natural leader, allows you to play the way you feel like: David Miller | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: South Africa’s hard-hitting batter David Miller is a big fan of Hardik Pandya’s captaincy and is full of praise for the Indian all-rounder.
The southpaw feels that Pandya can turn the Indian T20 team into a fearless group of players with his exemplary clarity of mind and work ethic.
With India eyeing the 2024 T20 World Cup and current skipper Rohit Sharma not expected to carry on, Pandya is considered an ideal replacement in the shortest format.
Miller, who became one of the best finishers in the game over the last couple of years, said, “Pandya is a natural leader. He allows you to play the way that you feel like you can and had played a crucial role in steering Gujarat Titans to the title on their IPL debut.”
“Just playing under him in the IPL, I feel he is very inclusive as a leader, he wants everyone to be close to each other,” the South African said.
“At the same time, he is clear with his discipline. He has got a lot of good attributes of a leader.
“In IPL he got better and better as the season progressed and I see him doing that (with the Indian team as well),” said Miller on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi T10 League.
Earlier, Pandya – who led India to a 1-0 series-win in New Zealand recently – said if he is considered for a leadership role in future, he will captain the side in his own way and his team will display the brand of cricket he knows the best.
He was asked how he perceives the views of Sunil Gavaskar or Ravi Shastri, who see in him a long-term captain.
“If people are saying, you feel good about it but till something happens (official announcement), you can’t say,” Pandya said after the rain-hit third T20.
“To be honest, my thing is simple, if I do one match or one series, I will lead the team my way, how I see and perceive the game. Whenever I am given the opportunity, I will always go out and play the brand of cricket I know.
As a unit, we will display my brand. As far as whatever (captaincy) comes in future, we will see,” the all-rounder said.
