Here's how many iPhones are may be active in the world - Times of India
It’s been over 13 years since the Apple iPhone first went on sale and pardon the cliche but it has been a game changer. The iPhone changed the way people use smartphones. Earlier this month while unveiling the iPhone 12 series, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the iPhone is a “product we use the most” and that it has never been more indispensable than it is now. A reliable analyst has now suggested that the iPhone installed base has hit the 1 billion milestone.
As per Neil Cybart of Above Avalon, “A billion people now have iPhones. According to my estimate, Apple surpassed the billion iPhone users milestone last month.” Cybart is a renowned analyst when it comes to Apple’s earnings estimates of quarterly revenues and other numbers. Apple had stopped disclosing the exact number of iPhones it sells a couple of years ago.
In his analysis, Cybart says that Apple is adding close to 20 million to 30 million new iPhone users every year. However, the percentage of overall iPhone sales going to new users has steadily declined, he says. “For FY2020, iPhone sales to new users will likely have accounted for less than 20% of overall iPhone sales – an all-time low,” says Cybart in his analysis.

Explaining what the iPhone installed base is, Cybart says that it “is defined as the total number of people using an iPhone (both new and used iPhones).”Apple, interestingly, did mention at the end of the first quarter in 2019 that the iPhone installed base had crossed 900 million devices.
2015 was the year when Apple sold 231 million iPhones, as per Cybart. “There continues to be a debate regarding whether or not Apple experienced “peak iPhone,” never exceeding that 231 million unit sales total in a 12-month stretch,” he says.
In 2010, Apple had an iPhone installed base of 120 million, which has grown to a billion in 10 years. “While the iPhone may have been responsible for Apple getting to a billion users, wearables have a decent shot of getting Apple to two billion users,” concluded Cybart in his analysis.
