‘I’m in shock’ Couple astounded as they learn how they could save £11,000
Mel and Wes Miller are all about big parties, big holidays, creating memories and spoiling their three kids. It is a lovely sentiment however it is costing them a fortune. The family are spending up to £36,000 a year on all of these things.
In the past the Millers have hired magicians and themed balloons which in total can cost up to £260.
The Shop Well for Less team challenged them to provide their own entertainment to their parties as this could help the, cut costs.
The couple could be saving £144.66 per party.
Mel and Wes both have expensive shopping habits.
Wes buys high end brands for the ‘style and comfort’ it gives him.
His whole wardrobe costs a total of £9,500.
Wes tends to buy designer jumpers and jeans however if he buys these second hand, he can make a saving of £257.
Additionally, Mel’s wardrobe is worth £6,000, and it’s filled with high street brands.
For a week, the couple were tasked with swapping their expensive items for cheaper alternative for the after shaves, clothes for the kids, football boots for their son, toys, and face washes. By using these cheaper alternatives, some unbranded, but still good quality – the Millers could make a saving of £119.77.
Mel usually spoils her children and spends up to £2,000 a year on special treats and toys for them. The Millers have 38 board games worth £850 altogether and the children’s play toys total £2,500.
The Shop Well for Less team suggested that Mel introduces a rewards chart instead of just buying new toys every time she goes out. They worked out that by having this chart, Mel could cut down to half the number of treats, and toys she was giving her kids and save £1,000 a year.
If the family take on board all the swaps, tips, and tricks the team have given them, they could be saving just over £11,000.
Overjoyed with the news, the couple said: “Wow that’s incredible, I’m in shock.
“Thank you for everything you’ve done for us, we really appreciate it.
“If we started becoming savvy like that, we’ll have an amazing wedding.”
