India vs Pakistan T20 Cricket World Cup match tickets in Australia sold out within five minutes

Nearly a month before the much-awaited India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match in Australia, thousands of tickets were sold out within five minutes of the start of ticket sales. The additional standing room tickets were also sold within minutes, ICC announced in an official release.

India will play against the arch-rival Pakistan in the Super 12 clash at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on October 23. The MCG has a capacity of more than 90,000 for cricket matches.

However, spectators can still buy some tickets closer to the event dates. “An official re-sale platform will be launched closer to the event, where fans can exchange tickets at face value,” ICC said.

“Fans are encouraged to join the waitlist in the event of additional tickets becoming available,” ICC asserted.

A total of 16 teams will take part in the marquee event that will start on October 16 and conclude with a final on November 13 at the MCG.

This would be the first ICC event since 2020 with full stadiums. A key reason for this enthusiasm for purchasing tickets, according to the ICC, is the accessible pricing for families that has seen over 85,000 children’s tickets sold. Tickets for kids are priced at just $5 for all First Round and Super 12 matches while those for adults start from $20.

The ICC said many other matches too have been sold out for the marquee event that will kick off with qualifiers from October 16.

“Current ticket allocations are also all sold for the double-header at the SCG on October 27 featuring South Africa v Bangladesh and India v Group A runner-up. Fans are encouraged to join the waitlist in the event of additional tickets becoming available,” the ICC said.

India has already announced it 15-men squad for the tournament led by captain Rohit Sharma. Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, who have regained fitness, were named in India’s squad. However, veteran pacer Mohammad Shami has been named among four reserve players for the tournament.

India squad for ICC T20 World Cup:

Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh.
