James Martin: Saturday Morning chef addresses ‘food before women’ remark ‘It sticks!’

Saturday Morning host James Martin, 48, said the list has since changed as he touched upon how his life had been different from his friends. The chef has previously admitted not getting married or having kids is the “biggest low” of his career.

He tends to keep his private life out of the public eye and doesn’t share pictures of his long-term girlfriend Louise Davies, who he started dating in 2011, on social media.

In an interview over 20 years ago, James put the things he admires most in order.

Podcast host Andy Jaye quoted him as saying: “Food first, then my cars, then my dog, then women.”

Addressing the comment, he said: “We’re talking 22 years ago, that was with printed media.

“Now, there’s the internet and you say something like that and it sticks.

“I might have moved stuff around a bit since then, but cars have always been a big passion of mine.

“My mates over the years have collected kids, marriages and divorces and stuff like that.

“I don’t know what it is, it started out life as just buying one [car] and that one then kicked off and it went mad.”

One day, however, the chef said was almost expelled after he accidentally started a fire by cooking a meal with alcohol.

The regular This Morning star added he would “never forget” the teacher who failed his cookery exam and told him he’d never be a chef.

He recalled: “Her last words when I walked out the door were, ‘You’ll never ever be a chef!’

“I’ve seen her a few times, she denies it but you remember that thing as a kid, you remember those words, the positives and negatives.”
