Jamie Carragher disagrees with Micah Richards view on Arsenal star Mesut Ozil

Jamie Carragher has brushed aside claims that Arsenal should consider bringing Mesut Ozil back in from the cold. The attacking midfielder has not played for the Gunners since March and was left out of their Premier League and Europa League squads respectively this season by Mikel Arteta.

However, with Arsenal struggling to score goals and create chances, there has been some suggestion that Ozil could be the answer to their problems.

The German is out of contract next summer and has made it clear that he intends to see out the remainder of his deal in north London.

Arsenal have attempted to negotiate a mutual termination of his contract but Ozil has refused to budge, despite offers from the Middle East and interest from the MLS.

Micah Richards is the latest pundit to suggest that Ozil could still have a part to play for the Gunners, given that Arsenal are crying out for some creativity.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher made it clear that he feels there is no way back for Ozil at Arsenal.

“I don’t think the answer is bringing Ozil in,” he said in the studio while discussing the situation with David Jones and Freddie Ljungberg.

“When three managers decide not to fully back him, I know you [Ljungberg] used him more than those managers did, but I think you had a situation where he came off and threw his gloves.

“Mikel Arteta doesn’t use him, two managers, maybe three with [Ljungberg], are they all wrong, really?

“There’s no doubt he’s got quality, but we’ve spoken about Ozil so often over the last few years and I don’t think he’s the answer to fix Arsenal’s problem. Why don’t people pick him? There must be something.”

Ozil has become a frequent user of social media during his Arsenal exile and has had several public spats with Gunners fan Piers Morgan.

In a heartfelt statement back in October, the 32-year-old explained that “loyalty is hard to come by nowadays” after being told that he was no longer part of Arteta’s plans.

“I’m really deeply disappointed by the fact that I have not been registered for the Premier League season for the time being,” Ozil tweeted.

“Upon signing my new contract in 2018, I pledged my loyalty and allegiance to the club that I love, Arsenal, and it saddens me that this has not been reciprocated.

“I’ve always tried to remain positive from week to week that there’s maybe a chance to get back in the squad soon again. That’s why I kept silent so far.”
