Jim Sarbh: I was told, 'how will your career advance if you don't talk about personal life and tell funny anec

In his career spanning just over 4 years in Bollywood, Jim Sarbh has proved his mettle by playing complex and layered roles on the big screen. Kicking off from playing a dreaded terrorist in Neerja to Padmaavat and now Taish, Jim has always managed to engross his audience to dig deep into his characters. But no one knows how Jim and his real self. Also Read – Jim Sarbh: Traditional masculinity should be discussed more openly, people feel ashamed to talk about it [Exclusive]

In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Life, Jim touched upon some of the aspects of his real-life persona, the feeling of loneliness, his journey in Bollywood so far and his take on the ongoing drug probe in the industry. Many people think that Jim is a very serious kind of person as he performs more dramatic and serious roles. But Jim says that he is not always like that. “I am dying to do some comedy. When I would do theatre, I would mostly do dramatic roles or comedy roles. So, I am still waiting for good opportunities and to be able to do that. But so far, yeah, there have been more dramatic and serious roles. What can I do? I think in Taish, until the event happens, you will get to see a very light side of me,” he told us. When we asked him to describe himself as a person, Jim said, “I can be a workaholic, but I can’t be just one thing. It depends on the situation. There are situations which make me deadly serious. In some situations, I can be laid back and relaxed while doing more of my actual stuff. In other situations, I find it very tricky because you can’t have a different opinion without it seeming like an argument. So I just find myself becoming a bit of more quiet, a bit more serious, a bit more withdrawn because I don’t really feel comfortable being able to really say what’s on my mind or what I feel, because I feel it will be met with, you know, ‘oh he’s being difficult’. But no, these are my thoughts, these are my opinions, and I am sorry, I disagree with you. And I wish we encourage discussions and debate on subjects instead of silence and lies. Because I feel a lot of people present themselves as a little manicured version of themselves in public for a variety of reasons. One that they want to promote their image which has become the norm. And the other is like differing opinions are just shot down so fast and attacked so quickly and are met with so much hatred, then it’s very difficult to feel consoled.”

After listening to this, we curiously asked him if he feels lonely sometimes when people don’t understand his emotions, “I think everyone feels lonely, frankly. I think everyone who present they don’t feel lonely, are probably lying,” he said

Talking about his journey in the industry so far, Jim said, “My experience in Bollywood has been lovely. I only joined in 2016 and since then I have got to do various projects and characters. I have enjoyed my journey. I feel like all you can really do as an outsider, to be head down with your work and work speaks for itself. I don’t really like this idea of public persona, promotions and PR, all these stuffs I just don’t understand that. Even today that I am doing interviews, they have told me these exact words, ‘How will your career advance if you don’t talk about personal life and tell funny anecdotes about stars in interviews?’ And I was like, that’s not where I would like to fit in myself into. So for me, its fine. I keep getting more bigger, better and diverse roles. And I hope it keep getting them. I hope to act in web series, and theatres, films and international films, I hope I just keep digging my teeth into like really fascinating people.”
