Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp issues injury update including Alisson latest

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alisson and the rest of Liverpool’s injured stars have failed to recover in time to face FC Midtjylland. The Reds travel to Denmark with top spot already secured in Group D, with one game to spare.

Liverpool are expected to name a heavily-rotated side in Scandinavia, with Klopp set to hand several youngsters the chance to gain some valuable experience.

It will also give the Liverpool boss the chance to rest the majority of his first XI ahead of this weekend’s clash with Fulham.

The Reds managed to navigate Sunday’s 4-0 win over Wolves without any new injury concerns, something that has been celebrated on Merseyside.

However, Klopp has confirmed that none of the club’s injured players will be ready in time to face Midtjylland.

Alisson could return this weekend though at Craven Cottage, after responding well to treatment.

Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez remain long-term absentees while Xherdan Shaqiri, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are beginning to step up their recovery.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita could return to the starting line-up tomorrow, after making their return against Wolves.

Liverpool ran out comfortable 4-0 winners against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side on Sunday at Anfield, in front of 2000 supporters.

Mohamed Salah, Gini Wijnaldum and Joel Matip were all on target before Nelson Semedo turned into his own net.

After the game, Wolves midfielder Leander Dendoncker conceded that the home support inside the ground did have a huge bearing on proceedings.

“It felt like there were at least 15,000 people in here when you heard the noise they made. They managed to push their team forward,” he told Wolves’ official website.

“Obviously, it’s way better with the fans and I hope that if the situation allows it and if we can all stay healthy then I hope all the stadiums can be full sometime soon.”
