Liverpool to miss out on £18m Gini Wijnaldum transfer replacement who Jurgen Klopp loves
Liverpool look set to miss out on one of their reported midfield targets Teun Koopmeiners, with Atalanta on the verge sealing a deal for the AZ Alkmaar captain. The Reds are looking to sign a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, who looks to be heading to PSG when his contract expires in a few weeks.
The 23-year-old is arguably one the most influential midfielders in the Eredivisie, due to his set pieces and superb passing range, something Liverpool could have benefited from.
Koopmeiners has been open about his desire to leave the his home country, as he seeks a new challenge in a higher-profile league.
It was previously reported that he had been holding talks with Roma, with Jose Mourinho’s side appearing to be Liverpool’s biggest challengers.
But, out of nowhere, another Serie A club has leapt to the front of the queue and are now set to sign the Dutch international.

The 30-year-old will become a free agent on July 1 and has been free to talk to other clubs for the past few months.
Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman worked with Wijnaldum during his time in charge of the Netherlands.
He reportedly wanted the Liverpool midfielder as part of a summer rebuild for the Spanish side, alongside the likes of Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia.
But it now looks as though Wijnaldum has decided to go to PSG instead, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
That is because the French club have offered him wages worth more than twice what Barca had tabled.
Wijnaldum is reportedly set to accept PSG’s proposal of a contract until 2024 because Barcelona have no intention of increasing their offer, which had been agreed in principle two weeks ago.
Bayern Munich had also previously expressed an interest in Wijnaldum but did not pursue his signature as aggressively as PSG.
Liverpool are likely to now look at other midfield targets, with Yves Bissouma another player heavily linked with the Reds.
