Loki is the Most Watched Disney+ Premiere to Date

While he’s a long way from Asgard now, it seems that the God of Mischief has found a new throne. Disney CEO Bob Chapek has announced that Loki had “the most watched premiere on Disney+ during its opening week.”

While that achievement is impressive, it comes with the caveat that Disney did not release any official numbers for the show’s viewership. Last month, the studio revealed that Disney Plus had grown beyond 103 million subscribers.

Disney released a similar statement following the premiere of its last Marvel series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, saying that the show drew a larger audience than both WandaVision and Season 2 of The Mandalorian without providing exact figures. While Loki’s premiere numbers seem to top these other series’, it is impossible to make a detailed comparison without official numbers.

Additionally, while Loki’s first episode drew a large audience, it is unknown if the Marvel series has impacted ongoing engagement with the Disney+ library. For example, the popularity of The Mandalorian spurred a spike in viewership for Star Wars: The Clone Wars. At the moment, it is not known if Loki’s premiere has led to Disney+ users discovering other content on the streamer.

In our review of the series premiere of Loki, IGN gave the episode a 7, saying that the “show’s worldbuilding is economic and entertaining, even if its character-building doesn’t quite rise to that level.” For more details about Loki, read our spoiler-free preview.
