Louis Smith: Why did star storm out of Strictly training? Former winner speaks out

Louis Smith appeared on Strictly in 2012 alongside his dance partner Flavia Cacace. On the series, they danced to glory and were announced as winners of the 10th series. Since his victory, Louis opened up toExpress.co.ukon how the series has changed over the years as well as reflecting on his time on the show.

Express.co.ukcaught up with former Strictly winner Louis as he opened up on all things Strictly.

Having won the show back in 2012, Louis spoke of how the show has changed over the years.

Talking of the changes, he said: “I think Strictly has evolved, Strictly like any good TV show has evolved with time.

“You might not know how it will evolve you just have to roll with the punches and kind of see where everything takes you and Strictly now is very different to when I was on it.

“Even when I was on it, Strictly was different to what it was like when it first launched.”

Louis went on to talk of how stars on the show now are often seen sporting amazing costumes.

He continued: “When I compare my Strictly, to this year’s Strictly, you know we didn’t really have costumes.

“Although we had themed clothes it was always still kind of ballroom and Latin attire whereas now there in all sorts of wacky costumes, and that’s something that has evolved over time.”

“I mean there are a few people that don’t get on with their partner it’s a clash of personalities or perhaps people don’t have the best of time because of work commitments.

“But I think for the most part everyone has a great time on Strictly.

“For me, it was just an incredible time, I had just finished the 2012 Olympic Games, and it was so nice to go into something completely different but just as demanding.”

In 2014, Louis was victorious again when he won the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special.

Louis said while the competition was stressful it was an experience he loved.

The dancer said: “It had its moments, don’t get me wrong it had its times when I was stressed, especially the Paso Doble when I was storming out and stuff.

“But you look back on it, and it’s just all one big experience that I would love to recreate.”

Louis Smith spoke to Express.co.uk as he partners up with Blacksticks Blue as part of a campaign to encourage people to try foods, such as blue cheese, that they may not have liked as a child.
