Madden 22’s early rendering of Mac Jones looks nothing like Patriots rookie

Madden 22 won’t be released until Aug. 20, but it’s already catching heat for some of its early character designs.

One of the most notable ones is Patriots rookie Mac Jones. The game’s initial rendering of the 15th overall pick from the 2021 NFL Draft looks nothing like him.

Below you can see Jones’ initial face design, per the Twitter account of Toucher and Rich.

Here’s a picture of Jones for comparison’s sake.

I mean, come on. It’s not even close!

First of all, Jones doesn’t have facial hair, so giving him an Andrew Luck-style neckbeard isn’t the right decision. He also doesn’t have a receding hairline and has blue eyes. The model appears to have either brown eyes or heterochromia, like Max Scherzer.

No matter how you look at it, this doesn’t look like Mac Jones. It looks like some cross between Luck, Scherzer and the Trae Young lollipop.

Maybe Madden hasn’t yet been able to scan Jones’ face into the game. After all, the game isn’t due out for another couple of months, so they are almost certainly still working on it. This character model could be a placeholder for Jones until his actual model is ready.

Even still, it’s quite comical, and it had Twitter abuzz and finding many comparisons for Jones’ avatar.

Other Twitter users pointed out some other early-game errors that have been featured in previous editions of Madden.

Needless to say, Madden is going to have to tweak Jones’ model, but it’s not a surprise to see them still working out the kinks of the unreleased game.
