Man Utd have powerful bait for Mauricio Pochettino with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer nearing sack

They could do with the Argentine for his ability to coax the best from young players, utilise attacking football and take the game to rivals. The Red Devils under Solskjaer have counter-attacked but, under Pochettino, they’d be going at full throttle.

And the prospect of taking over at the club and guiding them back to the top of the Premier League table after seven years of consistency is bait that could be difficult to ignore.

No matter how dire the Red Devils look, the very best managers in world football still find the job enticing and appealing. They know if they get it right, it will make them.

Louis van Gaal found the job so exciting he quit the Netherlands national team, despite steering them to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2014.

Jose Mourinho was a free agent when he was approached but had other offers at the time. Instead of choosing them, he instead opted to go to United – a club he felt suited his own ego.
