MATCH PREVIEW

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is demanding a fast start from his Manchester United side following several matches in which they have struggled in the first half before coming on strong in the second.

“Starting quickly is one thing and we want to start good,” said Solskjaer. “We have done well in the last few games against City but there are loads of things we can do better.

“We got pegged back in the beginning in midweek and they scored from crosses, which was disappointing.

“We really wanted to go through but we have to move on. It was a tight group decided by fine margins. Focus has been on this game and Manchester derby. That is the best game you can ask for.”

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola expects his side will face the “best version” of United, saying: “[We prepare] By thinking we are going to face the best version of them and, especially, talk a lot about what we are going to do.

“It’s not a knock-out game. It’s three more points, important ones of course for the quality of the opponent, but there are a lot of fixtures to come.”

He said of the under-pressure Solskjaer, following United’s midweek Champions League exit: “It’s important to know the value of Solskjaer is there. There is no doubt about this.

“I don’t have to give him support because he’s strong enough, he knows how it works in this job. When we win we are a genius and when we lose we have to be sacked.
