Michael Parkinson health: Star dismisses 'worries' over Covid vaccine 'First in the queue'

Michael Parkinson, 85, has shared that despite anti-vaxxers who do not believe the jab will be safe for human use, he will be one of the first up for receiving the vaccination. The chat show legend joined other stars including Bob Geldof, 69 and Michael Palin, 77, who also said they would have “no qualms” about being vaccinated.

After some have said that they would not want to receive the jab, a group of well-known entertainers have come together to encourage people to have the vaccination.

Celebrities backing the jab include Eamonn Holmes, Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood, Mastermind host John Humphrys, Monty Python’s Sir Michael Palin, singer Lulu and rockers Roger Daltrey and Ronnie Wood.

Live Aid hero Sir Bob Geldof, 69, led the rallying call, saying: “I will absolutely and immediately take it as soon as humanly possible.”

This Morning star Eamonn, 61, told the Sunday Mirror: “I will definitely take the vaccine. I reckon I’ve got more to lose by not taking it.”

“Life is for living, not wasting. I have too much to do and see and to pack into whatever is left of my life rather than waste years hiding away.”

It comes as Sir Michael, in particular, has recently suffered from ill health, as he appeared “frail” during a recent Good Morning Britain appearance.

Some viewers were left concerned by the star’s appearance as he appeared alongside his son Mike Jr to discuss their recent book release.

The chat show host was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2013 and received the ‘all-clear’ from doctors in summer 2015 following two years of treatment.

He also had to learn to walk again after spinal surgery to repair two ruptured disks in 2017.

Most recently the star has had gallstones removed during lockdown and is now recovering.

One viewer wrote: “#GMB Crikey I didn’t recognise Sir Michael. With the greatest respect, he has aged a lot.”

Whilst a fourth remarked: “#gmb Michael looks very thin.”

On receiving the vaccine in the near future, Michael told The Mirror: “I am first in the queue. I have no worries about it whatsoever. I trust British medicine implicitly.”

Strictly’s Craig, 55, said: “I would 100 per cent go for it, when my age group is allowed. Anything to not get the virus or pass it on.”

Comedy legend and TV globetrotter Michael Palin, 77, said: “I don’t have any qualms about taking it at all. I’m totally okay with the testing that has been done.”

Coronation Street star Dame Maureen Lipman, 74, added: “There is no alternative so you have to do it. And I will be.
