BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The 2022 Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament got underway on Thursday at South Warren High School.

Fourth-seeded Tennessee Southern defeated No. 5 seed Bethel (Tenn.) 7-1 in the first game and third-seeded Lindsey Wilson picked up a 6-5 victory over No. 6 seed Georgetown in game two.

Tennessee Southern will face top-seeded Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) at 2 p.m. CTon Friday while Lindsey Wilson takes on No. 2 seed Campbellsville at 4 p.m. CT

Georgetown will face the loser of the Freed-Hardeman/Tennessee Southern game at 6 p.m. CT and Bethel will take on the Campbellsville/Lindsey Wilson loser at 8 p.m. CT.

The Firehawks (26-23) struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Hayley Parrott led off with a single and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. She then reached third after a groundout and scored on an error. Tennessee Southern increased its lead to 2-0  in the third inning on a Bree Brady RBI double.

Bethel (22-27) got on the board in the top of the fifth. Madison White reached on an infield single and then advanced to second on a hit. Alexa Thrasher drove in White on a single to center field to make it 2-1. The Firehawks took control of the game in the bottom of the fifth scoring four runs. Parrott increased the Tennessee Southern to 3-1 on an RBI single and then Samantha King hit a three-run home run to make it 6-1. The Firehawks then added a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Parrott led the way for the Firehawks with three hits while Brady added two. King pitched all seven innings allowing six hits, one run and striking out three.

Six different Wildcats recorded a hit in the game. Madison Haught picked up the loss pitching 4-2/3 innings allowing six runs and only one earned. Kaylie McKinley pitched 1-1/3 innings of relief.

After a scoreless first inning, the Blue Raiders (36-14) struck first in the second inning. Alexis Garayzar led off the bottom of the second with a solo home run. Back-to-back one-out singles and a walk loaded the bases in the bottom of the third. A walk drove in a run to increase the Lindsey Wilson lead to 2-0. Lexi Isable then hit a grand slam to increase the Blue Raiders lead to 6-5.

Georgetown (Ky.) (17-30) would strike for five runs in the fourth inning. Kristen Klimesh led off the inning with a double and then scored on a Maria Fratangelo single to center field to make if 6-1. Kylee West then hit a grand slam to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 6-5.

Makea-Al-Kaluau and Desiree Chang led the Blue Raiders with two hits apiece. Olivia Franceschi picked up the win for Lindsey Wilson pitching four innings while allowing five hits and five runs. Emily Boin earned the save pitching three innings not allowing a hit and striking out five.
