In 2013 The Lunchbox starring Nimrat Kaur, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Irrfan Khan hit the screens. The film won people’s hearts because of its great content and stellar performances. As the film clocks in 8 years, Nawazuddin spoke to E Times and shared his feelings and experience on working on the film. Nawazuddin said he has several fond memories from the film and still gushes about the movie. The actor says that he had one of the best working experiences while working on this film. The fact that he and the late Irrfan Khan shot in a packed local train with real people is what makes the actor still cherish it.
Nawazuddin further told E Times that Irrfan was like a brother to him. He even said that it was Irrfan who made Nawazuddin meet Danny Boyle. “When the casting for Slumdog Millionaire was going on, he took me to meet Danny Boyle without an appointment. Imagine walking in to meet such a big director without any prior notice. Finally, both of us were cast in the movie, but unfortunately, when the shoot began, I was busy with another movie. So, my part was then offered to another actor. I have learned a lot from Irrfan bhai… even how to meet a big Hollywood director without an appointment (Laughs).”
The Lunchbox remains one of the few films where Irrfan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui worked together. Nawazuddin had even bagged a Filmfare Award for the film in the Best Actor in a Supporting Role category.
