Sony has released another mysterious PS5 patch that comes devoid of any meaningful patch notes.

What we can tell you is that today’s system update is available to download now and weighs in at around 902MB.

And while it isn’t a big chunk thing to install, that doesn’t mean it’s unimportant. All console owners must complete the PS5 update process so they can keep their access to the PSN and PlayStation Store.

And for those interested in what today’s PS5 update does, Sony has only confirmed that it includes improvements to system performance.

How that could change your gaming experience, Sony doesn’t say, and we’re not expecting any further news from the company on the subject.

Gamers have been sharing their own speculation over what might have been included and, if anything notable, has changed.

One small item talked about is regarding dimming issues on QLED Samsung TVs being fixed, although this remains speculation for now.

“For anyone that had problems with the 2014.1 firmware update on the 2020 QLED Samsung TV’s. This fixed a lot! (Local dimming).”

While today’s PS5 update is unlikely to have made a lot of big changes, there will be a lot more planned for 2021.

Sony recently announced its plans for a PS5 beta programme, which will allow those who opt-in to test out the latest console features.

“Our last major PS5 system update in April introduced new features like USB extended storage, cross-generation Share Play, an improved Game Base and other UI enhancements and social features.

“We’ll share more in the coming weeks about what you can expect in the beta for our next update.

“Whether you’re a new or returning PlayStation beta tester, we thank you for your support. Your feedback helps us make the console experience better for our whole community.”

The PS5 has been available for over six months now and has received several important patches that have helped to improve the overall experience.

However, they still remain very hard to buy, and stock shortages aren’t expected to get much better in July. There’s a chance of a bump heading into the holiday season, but many predict shortages will continue into 2022.
