Nigella Lawson, 61, is no stranger to sparking reactions with her recipes online but today she seemed to garner more attention, because of the title of her dish on Joe Biden’s Inauguration day. The chef shared a picture of her “bitter orange tart” in view of her 2.7 million Twitter followers.

She wrote: “Well, yes, Bitter Orange Tart just happens to be #RecipeOfTheDay.

“Apart from anything else, there are more things to make with Seville oranges than marmalade! This is not complicated: the base is bashed ginger nuts.”

She added: “I should also let you know that if you don’t have Seville oranges, the recipe also gives the option of using the juice of regular eating oranges and limes.

“Plus, the curd filling is fabulous just on bread or to sandwich a cake.”

Fans were quick to notice Nigella had posted the recipe on the same day Donald Trump leaves office as new President Joe Biden takes over.

One Twitter user wrote: “As a ginger, I’m triggered.”

In response to this, another commented: “Pretty sure this is aimed at a specific orange ex-president but I’m sorry it hits you too.”

“Perfect choice for this historic day,” a third added.

Screenwriter Sarah Phelps wrote: “You absolute legend and glorious queen. Best recipe of the day EVER!”

Trump announced last week he will not be attending his successor’s inauguration today.

It comes after a violent mob of the ex president’s supporters broke into the Capitol in a bid to overturn the result of the November election earlier this month.

America’s new president has said Trump not attending the ceremony is a “good thing”.

He added at a news conference: “He’s been an embarrassment to the country, embarrassed us around the world. He’s not worthy to hold that office.”
