Phillip Schofield details saving dad’s life after Christian Eriken’s cardiac arrest ordeal

Phillip Schofield, 59, recalled the moment as he and his colleagues discussed Christian Eriken’s collapse on the pitch on Saturday. The 29-year-old Denmark player received CPR from the on site medical team as he suffered from a cardiac arrest.

Following his ordeal, health expert Dr Ellie Cannon showed viewers how to perform CPR on This Morning today.

During the segment, Phillip said he saved his dad’s life by using the approach.

“I brought my dad back doing that,” he revealed. “We got 20 extra years with him because of that”.

His co-star Holly Willoughby replied: “That’s amazing!”

“But, when it did finally happen, we heard from the hospital, who said it’s incredible how many people, and it is this extraordinary physical thing, that a person who is near the end of their life who without even knowing maybe, waits until family have left the room and then they go quietly on their own.

“And that’s tough you know, that’s tough, he tried to sneak away, but we caught him.”

It’s not the first time the presenter has spoken about his late father.

Last year, Phillip hit the headlines after coming out as gay 27 years into his marriage with Stephanie Lowe.

The This Morning star went down to Cornwall to tell his mum and asked her how she thought his dad would’ve reacted.

Speaking on Chris Evans’ podcast How To Wow, he said:” When I went down to Cornwall when I told my mum, I said, ‘What do you think dad would have said? Would he still be proud?’

“Thankfully she said, ‘Yes… he’ll think you’re brave and he will always be proud of you’.

“So that is good… My dad was one of the kindest, sweetest, most lovely people ever.”
