PIP claimants may be able to receive £4,600 in additional support - are you eligible?

PIP is formally known as Personal Independence Payments, providing individuals with a sum of money to assist a variety of needs. PIP payments are directly targeted at supporting individuals with a long term health condition or disability, and can prove particularly useful in meeting a myriad of costs. As such, PIP claimants will often be looking for ways in which they can receive the most amount of financial support possible.
For this reason, then, it is therefore worth checking if one is entitled to unlocking an additional payment.
People who are currently claiming PIP and who are able to work, may be able to receive the disability element of Working Tax Credit.
Such a payment could be worth up to £4,600 – providing significant financial assistance to many households.
This money can be used for a variety of purposes, but can make a huge difference to a person’s life if they are living with a health condition or disability.

Working Tax Credit, though, has been replaced by Universal Credit for most people.
As a result, only certain individuals will be able to make a new claim for this form of support.
The government has explained this is the case for those who receive the severe disability premium, or are entitled to it.
In addition, if someone previously received or was entitled to the severe disability premium in the last month, and is still eligible for it, they will be able to start a new claim.
It will usually take up to five weeks for Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to process a new claim, and this can be done via phone.
For individuals who wish to see if they are entitled to receive Working Tax Credit, the process is designed to be a simple one.
Claimants are encouraged to access the calculator on the government’s website to help with their needs.
This calculator is intended to help Britons understand their circumstances and what these will entitle them to in the form of a payment from the government.
The standard PIP entitlement is split into two separate tiers, which different people will be entitled to, depending on how their condition affects them.
First, the daily living part of PIP has a weekly rate of either £59.70 or £89.15.
For the mobility element, the sum Britons are entitled to will either be £23.60 per week, or £62.25.
PIP is intended to be a tax-free payment, available to individuals whether they are in or out of work.
The sum is usually paid once every four weeks into a person’s designated bank or building society account.
