PIP payment dates set to change this month - how claimants will be impacted

PIP, formally known as Personal Independence Payments, offer a financial helping hand to Britons with certain disabilities and conditions. The payments the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) provides to claimants will, however, vary. This is because payments are based on the severity of a person’s condition and how it affects them, rather than the condition itself.
Those who expect to be paid on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, will instead receive their benefits slightly earlier on December 23.
This year, Boxing Day falls on a Saturday, and so an additional bank holiday has been built into the calendar on Monday, December 28.
As a result, PIP claimants expecting payment on this date will also receive a payment on December 23.
Finally, for those who are expecting a payment on the first day of the New Year, this will be moved a day earlier to December 31.
The DWP has urged Britons to take action ahead of time to confirm when they will receive the money to which they are entitled.
Baroness Stedman-Scott, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the DWP, commented on the matter.
She said: “Our colleagues have provided vital support to the most vulnerable people and will continue to do so over the Christmas period.
“Check dates and make sure you know when you will be getting your payments.”
