Rafael Nadal reveals Roger Federer message after his 2022 French Open win

If most, if not all, have been wondering why there has not been a congratulatory social media post made by Roger Federer after Rafael Nadal lifted a record-extending 14th French Open title on Sunday, the Spaniard finally revealed why. Nadal, who beat his apprentice Casper Ruud in straight sets in the final on court Philippe Chatrier to regain his supremacy at Roland Garros, revealed that Federer had personally sent him a message post the win.

When Nadal had lifted a record-equalling 20th Grand Slam trophy at the US Open in 2019, Federer had shared a long post on Instagram. When Nadal had become the first man to 21 Grand Slam trophy, the Swiss maestro had led the congratulatory wishes on Twitter. But tennis fans on social media noticed that neither Federer nor Novak Djokovic shared any post on Nadal after his stupendous haul on Parisian clay.

However, Nadal revealed that Federer had personally congratulated him after the big win.

“With Roger we have a good relationship and a special feeling,” Nadal told Sky Sports in Italy. “After the victory he wrote me a message to congratulate me.”

While Nadal, after his win on Sunday, vowed to continue fighting as long as he can, he cast a doubt over his Wimbledon participation admitting that his appearance at the All England Club this year will only depend on how his body feels after getting a treatment for his foot injury.

Nadal, who remains two clear of Djokovic and Federer in the all-time Grand Slam list now, admitted that his absence from the tour would give the Serb to level and subsequently surpass his tally.

“Anything can happen,” Nadal told the ATP. “Clearly Novak is in the best position to be able to beat that because he has no physical problems, and he’s playing at a spectacular level.

“Federer has been out for a long time and you can always expect something special from him, but we all know how difficult it is to come back, even more so at 40. We’ll see what happens. As I’ve always said, it didn’t bother me when we were level, and it doesn’t bother me now that I’m two ahead. I just want to keep competing.”
