Who hasn’t heard about Ramesh Sippy’s iconic movie, Sholay? The Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Hema Malini starrer is a classic and is considered one of Bollywood’s most memorable movies. Now, actor Shatrughan Sinha has revealed that he was offered a role in Sholay but missed out because of unavailability of dates. Sinha made the revelation during his guest appearance on a music reality show on television. “During those times, I was continuously shooting for films which had two heroes and, somehow, we can call it a human error or my dates were an issue due to which I couldn’t sign the film Sholay. I’m sad but happy at the same time as due to Sholay, national icon Amitabh Bachchan, who is my dear friend, got such a big break,” Sinha told judge Himesh Reshammiya on the show, according to a leading daily.

“Certain rejections of films occur due to date issues. Even Amitabh Bachchan wanted to do Kalicharan but he couldn’t do it for a reason. It’s generic in nature, even Rajesh Khanna, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Sunny Deol must have rejected films for several reasons,” he added. Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra’s roles as Jai and Veeru have gone down in cinema history with Hema Malini’s Basanti getting a special mention. It made a cult figure of Gabbar Singh, the villain who was played by Amjad Khan.
