Shock poll – Slim majority urge Hamilton not to retire from racing after devastating year
Former F1 owner, Bernie Ecclestone, said he expected Hamilton not to compete in Formula 1 next year. Instead, he advised Hamilton to leave racing “with seven World Cup titles like Michael Schumacher”, and “tackle his dream of becoming a fashion entrepreneur”.
But in a poll of 5,501 Express readers, held from December 24 to 31, a majority of 56 percent of voters said Hamilton, 36, should not retire from racing.
One reader, Colo, said: “I think Lewis has been brilliant over the years, and has another Championship in him to truly become the GOAT (greatest of all time) and a better sportsman than Schumacher.
“But a move into fashion? Are we being real? His clothing is appalling. Hideous on a good day! Come on Lewis, you can do this! Be the best ever.”
Another voter agreed: “Lewis shouldn’t retire he should come back and show he’s the best in the world!”
And Express reader, Sam, said: “His fashion is nowhere near as good has his racing skills so stick to racing.”
Hamilton has been one of the most prominent sportsmen in the fashion industry, and continues to surprise the public with bold statement looks.
He hopes to explore a career in fashion design, but whether he will give up racing to do so is unclear.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff hopes Hamilton will overcome the loss of the 2021 championship and carry on racing.
Wolff said: “I would very much hope Lewis continues racing because he is the greatest driver of all time.
“As a racer, his heart will say I need to continue because he’s at the peak of his game.”
