We might not know exactly when Windows 11 will be officially released to billions of people across the planet but we do know some lucky Windows 10 fans can now download this new operating system. Microsoft has just announced that those who are part of its Windows Insider Programme can get early access and try things out on their PC.

The idea behind this is that the more people who are happy to test the software and cope with the pre-release bugs the better the final software will be when launched to the public.

Not every new feature is available in this initial release with more upgrades coming to Insiders as a worldwide release gets closer.

Explaining more in a post on its website, Microsoft said: “Hello Windows Insiders, we are excited to release the first Windows 11 Insider Preview build to the Dev Channel, Build 22000.51! As we finalize the product over the coming months, we will work with you to validate the experience. You will get to try many, but not all, of the new features we showed last week in this early preview. We will bring more features such as Chat with Microsoft Teams and Android apps in the Microsoft Store over the coming months as they are ready for you – we are just getting started on this journey together!”

This blockbuster upgrade will arrive on PCs in the coming months and includes a rebooted Start Menu which is now centred in the taskbar. There are also new widgets that pop up to help you get to content and information faster and you’ll find something called snap layouts which lets you easily organise all of your open windows with one click.

There’s also the ability to run almost any Android app alongside Microsoft applications, and better integration with Microsoft Teams will make it easier to join your morning meeting.

Along with its new look, Microsoft says that it’s making it easier to install the endless updates it pushes out with these files now 40% smaller than what current Windows 10 users have to suffer. These boring patches will soon be installed in the background meaning it won’t impact your web surfing or boxset binge.
