‘Stick to green list’ and ‘be aware’ of watchlist says Grant Shapps amid holiday confusion

In the Government’s travel review yesterday, June 24, it was announced that only one country was to be added to the travel green list: Malta. Thirteen nations were added to the green “watchlist”.

Thirteen new countries were added to this list yesterday.

They are Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Balearic Islands, Barbados, British Antarctic territory, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Madeira, Montserrat, Pitcairn Islands, and Turks and Caicos.

Additionally, Israel was moved from the green list to the green watch list.

The watch list is designed to avoid the repeat pf the Portugal chaos, when the country was removed from the green list and added to the amber list with only four days’ notice.

This caused mayhem for British travellers who had to immediately return home from the nation.

Mr Shapps added: “Of course things could move very quickly – that is always a possibility, and we have to reserve that right just to protect health.

“But we’ve always tried to give a bit of notice.

“By putting it on the watch list we’re giving people the heads up with what we’re seeing here – what the scientists are showing us.

“We’re trying to give people as much insight as we have, frankly, so they can come to their own decisions.”
