Susie Dent breaks silence on co-star Nick Hewer quitting Countdown as she talks 'putdowns'

Countdown star Susie Dent has said she will miss her co-star Nick Hewer “hugely”, when he leaves the Channel 4 show in the coming months. Back in December, after almost ten years at the helm of the popular programme, the 76-year-old announced he would be stepping down from his role as host.
Susie described the TV star as a “mischief-maker” and said he would often reveal his naughty side during their exchanges on the show.
He took pleasure in making her “squirm” while defining words with rude or cheeky meanings, she explained.
Nick previously said he would be filming his final moments around his 77th birthday in February.
The lexicographer made her comments in a new interview with the Radio Times.

“I’ll miss Nick hugely. He is such a mischief-maker and will innocently ask me to define a word he knows is a bit naughty, just to see me squirm.
“His teasing putdowns of the contestants are also testament to his dry sense of humour,” she said.
On December 7, Nick admitted that the most recent lockdown had given him the opportunity to think about his future on Countdown.
He informed fans, via Twitter, that it had been a “privilege and a pleasure” to present the programme but it was time to “smell the flowers and get a dog”.
During her chat with the publication, Susie reassured fans that she has no plans to leave the programme herself.
“As for me, I’m very happy in Dictionary Corner, and will be there as long as the viewers and Channel 4 will have me,” the wordsmith said.
The 56-year-old went on to say that the beauty of the show, which has been running for 38 years, was its addictive simplicity.
Fans walk away with a teapot rather than a large amount of money, so they appear on the show for the “sheer love of the game,” she added.
