If you have just bought a new PlayStation console, you probably have a long list of games you want to play.

There are plenty of first-party exclusives to pick from, never mind the library of free titles you can download at no extra cost.

And right now, Sony has got some cracking PS4 and PS5 games to play through, whatever your taste in video games is.

One game that is picking up some hype in 2021 just so happens to be free-to-start, a term used for a title that can be played to a point before it needs to be bought.

But even if Knockout City doesn’t scratch that gaming itch you have, there are tons of other games to choose from.

But the big thing to note regarding Knockout City is that it is a newly released game available across several platforms that’s proving very popular.

And that’s very important, as you want to sink some time into something with a decent looking future.

There are lots of free games to choose from on PS4 and PS5, but there might be little point in getting good if no one is playing it anymore.

That probably won’t be a problem for Knockout City in 2021, a new Dodgeball brawler from EA that launched into a very crowded market.

The good news is that KC has a growing player base, lots of new content planned, and comes with steady cross-platform support.

So if you have friends playing on PC or Xbox, you won’t have too much trouble jumping into a game together.

Commenting on the games recent success, EA released this statement regarding the growing player base and free trial status:

“Since launch, we’ve seen 5 million new brawlers join us in matches, there’s been amazing— and unexpected— gameplay, hundreds of thousands of Crews were formed, over half a billion KOs landed, millions of hours of gameplay were watched, and—dare we say it?—thousands of friendships were made along the way. Who knew you could bond over hitting one another in the face with a dodgeball?

“It’s been amazing to see everyone getting to check out the game during Block Party for free, and we know this is a game that you really need to play to appreciate how fun it is, so we wanted to keep the game free to try for anyone that didn’t get to check it out before now.

“That’s why we’ve decided to keep the fun rolling by giving new brawlers the ability to start playing for free and level up (currently to Street Rank 25) before having to purchase the game. That’s also enough game time to teach them to pass the ball.”

As a recap, Knockout City is free-to-play until you reach Rank 25, after which you will need to buy the game for 19.99, or subscribe to EA Play.

But that should still give everyone plenty of time to determine whether they want to keep playing through the Dodgeball mania.

If you don’t like the mechanics available in Knockout City, there are plenty of other free games to play right now.

GENSHIN IMPACT

An action RPG that doesn’t cost anything to download, Genshin Impact boasts a chunky story to follow and plenty of characters to unlock.

Judged to be a Zelda Breath of the Wild rip-off before it launched, Genshin does share some DNA with the popular Nintendo game, only to offer its own flavour of combat mechanics and world-building.

Definitely worth a look if you have just purchased a PS5 and looking to try something a little different today.

FORTNITE

Fortnite Battle Royale might have started out as a free-to-play spin-off, but the shooter has long since passed the original in terms of content and popularity.

Fortnite continues to excel at offering a mix of intense gunplay mixed with quick building and territory control, powered by regular content updates.

Winning a game means becoming the last person standing, all the while racing the storm into a shrinking area that soon fills with enemies to defend against.

It might not be for everyone, but it’s hard to skip over one of the most popular Battle Royale games of recent years that shows no signs of slowing down.
