Tottenham beating Arsenal makes mockery of Mikel Arteta pre-match comments

“I think it’s very early in the season to see who is title contenders or not,” he said.

“But what you can say is what I said before is that they (Spurs) are in the position they are because they are doing things the right way.

“What we have to look at is where we will be after 38 games in the league. Now what is going to happen after Sunday, we want to be close and finish three points closer to them.”

Arteta won’t like it, but now is exactly the time to talk about Tottenham being genuine contenders.

There’s still a long way to go, of course, but Spurs have already laid down a marker. It’s time for the rest of the teams in the top flight to catch up.

Tottenham emphatically beat Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford on an afternoon where Son and Kane ran riot.
