Two Years Ago, Everyone Thought Redfall was The Elder Scrolls 6
After years of speculation, we at last know what Redfall will be. And it definitely won’t be The Elder Scrolls 6.
The announcement truly puts to rest speculation that began in early 2019, when Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media was revealed to be in a trademark dispute over the the term Redfall. ZeniMax first filed for the name back in September 2018.
The filing sparked speculation that The Elder Scrolls 6 would be named Redfall, a term that first appeared in the Redguard adventure game in 1998. It didn’t make a ton of sense given that most Elder Scrolls games are named for locations, and Redfall has never actually appeared in TES lore, but fans are hungry for any tiny bit of information.
Bethesda writer Michael Kirkbride confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 wouldn’t be called Redfall in a 2019 AMA. Nevertheless, the name has continued to rattle around in Elder Scrolls coverage.
We now know that Redfall will be a co-op open world shooter from Arkane Studios. It will feature vampires, which are certainly present in the Elder Scrolls universe, but these vampires are the result of a lab accident.
We still know extremely little about The Elder Scrolls 6. Right now Bethesda seems focused on Starfield, which was confirmed for a November 2022 release date. Redfall will be out next year as well.
In the meantime you can catch up on all of our The Elder Scrolls 6 coverage so far. Expect more announcements during E3 2021 as the Summer of Gaming continues.
