‘What a t***’ Craig Charles horrified over blasting The Beatles for ‘abandoning’ Liverpool
TV presenter and actor Craig Charles, 57, has shared how he was horrified with himself after berating The Beatles for “abandoning” Liverpool during a star-studded dinner. Appearing on Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time podcast, the star, who plays Dave Lister in TV series Red Dwarf, relayed how he found himself meeting members of The Beatles when he was younger, before telling how he reprimanded them for leaving the city where the rock band was formed.
While introducing the actor, Kate gave a warning to listeners ahead of welcoming him on the show.
She said: “I leave you now with a life lesson, do not drink and then speak your truth with your heroes, especially when they happen to be fifty per cent of The Beatles and you’re Craig Charles.”
Appearing on the podcast, Liverpudlian Craig told how he ended up in an intimate setting with half of one of the country’s most loved bands.
He said: “I remember once I was at dinner, I was only about 20 and sitting opposite me was George Harrison and sitting next to him was Ringo Starr.

“Sitting on my right was Michael Caine and sitting at the head of the table was Bob Hoskins.”
Craig shared how he felt delighted in the star-studded company, not being able to believe who he was dining with.
He explained: “I remember just sitting there with them having idle banter and Ringo was still drinking back then, he was hilarious.
“I was just thinking back then, ‘Oh my god, I’ve arrived!'”
The actor revealed how he berated George and Ringo for leaving the city where The Beatles were formed.
“I was kind of berating them for abandoning Liverpool, ‘You left us George, you left us! What were you thinking?’
“Liverpool was the centre of the universe,” he added as the former The X Factor presenter giggled away.
“Yeah because their contribution to Liverpool is so minimal, what contribution have they left culturally?” Kate said, sarcastically.
“I know and just not realising when I look back at it, I was probably thinking if I was George and Ringo I’d have probably been thinking, ‘what a t***”, Craig replied.
“That’s why I left Liverpool!” Kate quipped, before laughing.
“Yeah, exactly!” agreed Craig, before echoing the host, “that’s why I left Liverpool”.
“Everyone lives on the Wirral now anyway,” he finished.
