Satpal Singh, the father-in-law of wrestler Sushil Kumar, who was named in a FIR, following the death of a young wrestler, has refuted the charges against the two-time Olympic medal-winning grappler.
The Delhi police claimed that Sushil, 37, was present when the fight between two groups broke out, leading to the death of the former junior national champion wrestler, Sagar Kumar, 23, at the Chhatrasal Stadium in the national capital on Wednesday.
“Aisa kuch nahi hai. Yeh aapas mein unka kuch jhadga tha lekin Sushil ne kuch nahi kiya hai [there is nothing like this. It was an internal fight among some people but Sushil has not done anything],” Satpal, a 1982 Asian Games gold medal-winning wrestler, told mid-day over the phone from New Delhi yesterday.
When probed further, he refused to discuss the matter and hung up.

“Ab maamle ki tehkikaat ho rahi hai toh mein aur kuch nahi bata sakta [the matter is currently being investigated, so I cannot tell you anything more right now],” added Satpal, 65, a Dronacharya Award-winning coach.
Meanwhile, Sushil told ANI a day earlier that the fight was not among any of the wrestlers, who are camping at the stadium, where Sushil trains too. “They weren`t our wrestlers. It happened late last night. We have informed police officials that some unknown people jumped into our premises and fought. [There is] no connection of our stadium with this incident,” said the 2008 Beijing Olympics bronze and 2012 London Olympics silver medal-winning grappler.
