This week, President Joe Biden officially signed into law Juneteenth as a federal holiday. The holiday commemorates June 19, 1865, when a Union general named Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, TX and informed the enslaved African-Americans living there that they were now free.

Ahead of this year’s Juneteenth celebration, ABC’s documentary series Soul of a Nation will air a special TV event entitled Juneteenth: Together We Triumph. The two-hour broadcast will be guest hosted by actor Leslie Odom Jr. and feature performances by Jimmie Allen, Chloe Bailey and Leon Bridges. Notably, Good Morning America coanchor Michael Strahan will interview former President Barack Obama about race and resilience.

During the special, viewers will learn about the origins of soul food, listen to a new wave of artists inspiring change, discover Black-owned businesses making a difference, watch important discussions about racial injustice today and much more.
